Healthcare MBA: Why You Might Want One

June 19, 2019

When Katie Greiner, OD, approached the leaders of her MD/OD practice about developing new eyecare services, she found them receptive and supportive. They suggested she hone her management skills with a healthcare MBA, which she now is completing. Here’s how the MBA training has given a new mindset to her clinical skills and enhanced her value to the practice and her career.

BETTER POLICY & PROCEDURE. A  healthcare-focused MBA can help an OD learn how to manage the administrative aspects of running a practice, including creating better policy and procedure.

LEADERSHIP & CULTURE. MBA programs show students the important role leadership and culture play in the success of a business, including by creating happier employees.

ENHANCE PROFESSIONAL PROSPECTS. In addition to becoming more valuable to the practice you are currently working in, an MBA can make you more attractive to other practices since so few ODs hold MBAs.
