Beverly Bianes, OD, and John C. Pack, OD, believe that the unique skills and qualities of a person can provide a special opportunity for a growing optometric practice. They created a “community service liaison” position when they met a highly talented individual. While the position is not revenue-producing, they note that the community service events this person creates are powerful team-building and practice-branding assets.
IDENTIFY SPECIAL ABILITY. Some employees have a gift for a skill like community organizing, which can be used to specialize in those activities for your practice, such as becoming a community events organizer.
LONG-TERM ROI. Positions that aren’t patient-facing often don’t generate immediately measurable ROI, but they can make long-term projects possible that deliver practice-building opportunities over time.
PROVIDE PROJECT RESOURCES. Projects, which you didn’t think were possible, become doable when even just a part-time employee is able to devote undivided attention each week to the work.
