Valentine’s Day is here, and I can’t help but think about what makes my optometry practice so special to me. Curious to know what other optometrists love about their office, I reached out to colleagues, and their insightful responses are worth sharing!

Six Big Things to Love

  1. Freedom to do things exactly how I want to do them.
  2. Staff that works as hard and cares as much about our patients as I do.
  3. Loyal patients who care about me and I care about them.
  4. New frames, lenses, contact lenses, medications, equipment.
  5. Blessed with a profession that helps me provide for my family.
  6. A profession that is truly “fun” such that I never dread going into my office on a Monday morning. – Kenneth D. Boltz, OD

Brand to be Proud of

I LOVE that we have successfully built a brand that is recognized, trusted and synonymous with excellence, and my staff is fully engaged and lives out our core values and “We Believes” daily. I LOVE knowing that we truly do make a positive difference in our patients’ lives and the communities we serve. And, lastly, I LOVE knowing that we are giving the best care possible in a warm and friendly environment.  – Steve Rice, OD

The Continued Feeling of Passion & Energy for Being Practice Owner

I love my practice because when I walk in the door in the morning, I feel a vibration and a buzz within me. Despite all the challenges of private practice even in the hardest times, I know then I can change anything I want on a dime. If something is not working, I can change it immediately. That energizes me! I love the creativeness it gives me to try new things to enhance my business and profession. – Troy Bedinghaus, OD

Laughter

I love hearing the laughter of my staff from another room. It’s one of the little things that makes the work day enjoyable! I love caring for our patients as a whole person, restoring their best vision and advising them on any needed follow-up for their systemic health. I also love the flexibility of owning my own office. I feel so blessed to be an optometrist! – Tracey Scasta, O.D.

The Cool Vibe

I love how cool our office is. The comfy chairs, Austin vibe, coffee machine and all of the state-of-the-art technology – Kim Slaughter, OD

Colleagues to Collaborate With

I love having a multi-doctor practice to exchange ideas. – Melodi Esmaili, OD, FAAO

The Expressed Appreciation of Patients

I love how much our patients love/compliment our staff. It shows that we have built an incredible office culture.  – Kevin Soong, OD, FAAO

Being a Family Practice

I love that we are a “family practice” and that I have had the privilege of seeing the same patients over the last 18 years…kids growing up, babies being born, grandparents moving in, etc. It almost feels like my patients and I grew up together. – Susan Shauger, OD

New Ideas

I love that our practice incorporates new ideas and is always looking to improve patient care. – Corey Huynh, OD

Love for the Profession

How about me? I really love our profession of optometry. It has enabled me to do SO many cool things (including being a professional editor of this publication!). But I still love walking into my office, seeing patients get a consistently wonderful experience and watching our employees grow. Running a practice is always a challenge, and I truly love challenges (well, most of them!).

What do you love about your office??
