The Optometric Minute

Creating Awareness of the Need for Myopia Management

Oct. 16, 2019

Daniel J. Press, OD, FCOVD, of Park Ridge Vision in Illinois, believes that succeeding with myopia management services requires educating patients and families–and the resources for doing so are greater than ever before. He explains how he address the progression of myopia in young patients, and how he can help patients recovering from concussions and trauma. Here are new opportunities for ODs who equip themselves to capture them.

SHOW EVIDENCE OF EFFICACY. Research findings, such as that available from the Brien Holden Vision Institute, can bolster the case to patients and the public on the value of myopia management.

AID CONCUSSION RECOVERY. ODs can educate their patients and local community of the need for visual evaluations and care following a head injury.

RALLY INDUSTRY SUPPORT. Individuals ODs can only do so much in educating patients and their communities about the opportunity of myopia management. The eyecare industry also must continue lending strong support.
