Percentage of Eye Exams Resulting in an Eyewear Purchase?

During the 12-month period ending June 2011, about 56.2 percent of those adults getting their eyes examined made an eyewear purchase as a result of getting their eyes examined., according to The Vision Council’s 2nd Quarter 2011 US Optical Market Overview and Outlook. That amounts to approximately 58.1 million transactions.

American Optometric Foundation and Essilor Announce 2011 Technology Grant Recipients

The American Optometric Foundation (AOF) along with Essilor of America, Inc., has announced the 2011 recipients of the Essilor Technology Grants; now in its tenth year. The announcement was made at the Foundation’s Annual Celebration Luncheon during Academy Boston. Three $20,000 grants were awarded to optometry institutions for projects intended to elevate the standards and visibility of ophthalmic dispensing to students and patients in the training environment. >>READ MORE>>

Biggest Anticipated 2012 Practice Improvement: New Instrumentation

Asked what they anticipate their greatest practice investment will be in 2012, 50 percent of ROB readers said new instrumentation. Twenty-one percent said they plan to spend the most on software solutions, while another 21 percent anticipate spending the most for office renovations or new office space. Seven percent plan to spend the most on the hiring of additional staff including creating a practice budget. Fourteen percent said they would like help reviewing and improving insurance and billing procedures, and another 14 percent would like help with staff training.
