Dwight Akerman, OD, MBA, FAAO, has been named Chief Medical Editor of Review of Myopia Management , a multichannel web site that debuts in March 2019.

Prior to joining Review of Myopia Management, Dr. Akerman was the vice-president & global head of professional affairs & business development for Alcon, a Novartis Division.
Review of Myopia Management is dedicated to helping eyecare professionals navigate the emerging field of myopia management. It will be circulated to 47,000 eyecare professionals in the U.S., Canada and globally, and present fresh analysis from experts in myopia and summaries of peer-reviewed research articles. It will also have regularly updated channels covering clinical developments, practice management, and products and services related to myopia management.
New Resource
Review of Myopia Management is published by the Jobson Optical Group, which also publishes Review of Optometry, Review of Ophthalmology, Review of Optometric Business, Women In Optometry, 20/20, Vision Monday and VMail.
The prevalence of myopia is rising rapidly and the age of onset is lowering. Myopia is more than just a cosmetic concern, as higher levels of myopia are associated with complications such as retinal detachment, cataract, glaucoma and myopic maculopathy in adult life.
“We are delighted to leverage Dr. Akerman’s expertise to make a positive impact on the global myopia epidemic,” says Al Greco, publisher of Review of Myopia Management. “Bringing him on board to address opportunities in myopia management is an exciting new chapter in our collaboration.”
Review of Myopia Management also announces that it has come to an agreement with the Brian Holden Vision Institute as a Special Content Contributor Partner.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Jobson Optical Group and be the first ‘Special Content Contributor’ to this timely initiative to keep practitioners regularly informed and at the cutting-edge of myopia management care,” says Yvette Waddell, Chief Executive Officer of the Brien Holden Vision Institute, which has been a global leader in myopia research, education and advocacy. “This is a wonderful opportunity to share our knowledge with eyecare professionals through Jobson’s comprehensive network.”
Dr. Akerman says the goal of Review of Myopia Management is “to be a leading source of clinical, practice management and research information on myopia for eyecare professionals. Most eyecare professionals in the U.S. and Canada have not incorporated myopia management into their primary-care practices. We want to help change that.”
