In early September, during a stop on his world tour in California, Paul Rose, OD, designer of the Rose K family of lenses for the irregular cornea, visited the ABB OPTICAL GROUP GP Laboratory in Alameda, Calif. There he spent time training the certified consultants on the Rose K2 XL design and fitting techniques. Dr. Rose was also the featured guest speaker at the Rose K2 seminars, co-sponsored by ABB OPTICAL GROUP and Menicon. The evening seminars provided an intimate setting for the 65 eyecare professionals that were in attendance. Dr. Rose gave a first-hand description of fitting irregular corneas with Rose K2 lenses.
Additionally, he introduced the newest member of the Rose K family: the Rose K2 XL, a semi-scleral lens designed for a variety of irregular cornea conditions.
The addition of the Rose K2 XL lens further enhances the proven benefits of the Rose K family of lenses. Rose K is the single most frequently prescribed lens design for correction of keratoconus and irregular cornea conditions in the world. Currently sold in 88 countries, the Rose K family of lenses consists of five existing designs, Rose K, Rose K2, PG (post graft), IC (irregular cornea) and NC (nipple cone).
Dr. Rose explained that the newly released Rose K2 XL semi-scleral lens is indicated for Keratoconus, PMD, Post Graft, Post–Lasik ectasia and other irregular cornea conditions that cannot be successfully fitted within the limbus. The Rose K2 XL allows eyecare practitioners to provide their patients with the exceptional visual acuity and improved comfort that large diameter GPs are known for having. Dr. Rose reviewed how experienced specialty lens fitters will appreciate the familiarity of fitting the Rose K2 XL design when using the five-step fitting method that is commonly used with the proven Rose K product line.
New fitting guides featuring the Rose K family of lenses, including Rose K2, a new Rose K2 XL fitting guide and diagnostic fitting sets for the Rose K2 and Rose K2 XL lenses will soon be available from ABB OPTICAL GROUP.
