Why to Consider Your Timeline Before Selling Your Practice

Sept. 4, 2019

Your timeline for exiting practice can be just as important to consider as sale price. Factors like how long you would like to continue seeing patients, and the environment in which you would like to work for your remaining professional years, are essential to consider. Here are pointers from Michael Kling, OD, and Mark Wright, OD, FCOVD, for thinking through this important decision.

TIMELINE. How long do you want to continue caring for patients?

TERMS OF DEAL.Would the deal with the company you sell to require you to continue seeing patients past the closing of the sale?

WORKING ENVIRONMENT. If you know you want to continue seeing patients for another five years, do you want to do that work on behalf of your own practice, or for another company?
