Mile Brujic, OD, FAAO, has found the design of the DELTA Scleral lens to be both intuitive and ingenious. The DELTA system is built around a logically structured diagnostic set that walks the practitioner through each decision point. That helps him deliver a streamlined yet customized option for more patients at Premier Vision Group in Bowling Green and Northwood, Ohio.
The First Step
The first step in the DELTA workflow is selecting an initial diagnostic lens based on the patient’s horizontal visible iris diameter (HVID). Next comes the sagittal depth choice, organized in the fitting set from left to right, with increasing sagittal depth as you move to the right. Lenses toward the left deliver lower sagittal depths for more shallow corneas, while those to the right provide higher sagittal depths. Coupling the HVID selection with sagittal depth choice typically brings Dr. Brujic close on his first diagnostic lens, minimizing chair time for himself and the patient.
Then, three critical zones can be manipulated in the lens design, independently of one another.
Three Zones
- Central corneal clearance: He aims for 250-300 microns of post-settlement clearance. Clear guidelines for increasing or decreasing vault make ordering modifications straightforward.
- Limbal clearance: Adequate space over the limbus is essential to avoid tissue compression. The DELTA diagnostic set offers stepped limbal options so the limbal vault can be customized independently of other lens parameters.
- Landing-zone alignment: A flat meridian in the scleral landing zone must align precisely with the conjunctiva. The DELTA design’s separate landing zone controls let practitioners adjust
toricity or landing zone characteristics without disturbing central or limbal clearance.
“What makes the DELTA Scleral unique is that when you manipulate any portion of the lens, you do so without impacting the fit characteristics of other portions of the lens. You don’t have to worry about what increasing the central corneal clearance is going to do to the landing zone,” he says.
Find Success With Sclerals

The success stems from its patented steep sag delta feature, which allows an increased toricity in the more proximal portions of the lens within the bowl that produce a better-fitting lens. The result is a stable, well-centered lens that patients can wear comfortably.
DELTA’s systematic notation and clear change cues also enhance communication between Dr. Brujic and the laboratory. When he requests a 50-micron vault increase or additional microns of toricity in the landing zone, there is no ambiguity—orders are filled accurately and quickly.
Moving Past The Learning Curve
Although every new lens platform carries a learning curve, Dr. Brujic recommends that eye care professionals immerse themselves in the DELTA fitting guide. After five fits, he finds that the nuances become second nature and both fitters and patients gain confidence rapidly.
Available in a full range of high-Dk, variable-modulus materials, the DELTA Scleral lens promotes healthy physiology through exceptional oxygen transmission. Clinically, Dr. Brujic has seen outstanding outcomes across a spectrum of challenging cases including keratoconus, severe dry eye, post-penetrating keratoplasty, corneal trauma, post-RK and more.
It is this combination of engineering sophistication, scientific precision and true customization that keeps Dr. Brujic returning to the DELTA Scleral lens for his irregular corneal patients—and for making scleral lens fitting an intuitive and logical process.
