Transitions Guide: How to Protect Your Eyes During the Eclipse

August 16, 2017

In preparation for the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017, Transitions Optical has released new resources for eyecare professionals so they are prepared to talk about sun protection with their patients and local media during the eclipse, and year-round.

The materials, found at TransitionsPro.com/Eclipse2017, provide eyecare professionals messaging, PR tips and marketing resources so they can become a local eye-protection expert. It includes an eclipse fact sheet, media outreach materials, an office counter card and social media content. The materials stress that it is never safe to look directly at the sun, even when wearing protection, but that there are safe ways to view the eclipse. The materials also emphasize that while the eclipse is only one day, you need to help protect your eyes from glare, UV rays and harmful blue light everyday with products like Transitions lenses.

“Consumers are excited about the eclipse and are looking for advice about how to view it safely. The total solar eclipse presents an opportunity for eyecare providers to talk to their communities and patients, not just about how to protect their eyes during the eclipse, but the importance of sun protection year-round,” says Patience Cook, director, North America marketing, Transitions Optical. “We look forward to sharing the conversations this event is creating around eye health.”
