Meeting in Rocky Mountains with outdoor adventure and learning.
July 10, 2024
The GRT Summit is hosting its third annual meeting in Estes Park, Colo., on September 4-8, 2024.
“The GRT Summit is not your typical ‘transactional’ optometric CE meeting where you pay your registration fee, attend the meetings and leave with only a CE certificate,” says GRT co-founder Paul Mormon, OD, who describes the program as “a one-of-a-kind, collaborative meeting” of independent-minded ODs.
The GRT Summit was a dream of Dr. Mormon and Pete Van Hoven, OD, while on a road trip during the pandemic through the National Parks in Southern Utah and Arizona. That trip sparked the idea for an annual meeting that would bring independent-minded ODs together to learn from each other and socialize in nature.

Before the inaugural GRT Summit, Chris Wroten, OD and Ryan Powell, OD, also joined the GRT team as lecturers and hosts of the event.
GRT stands for Grow, Retain, Transition, and the GRT Summit focuses on helping independent optometry practices with COPE-approved continuing education and business enhancement sessions. These classes are designed “to assist ODs of all ages to Grow the practice, Retain topnotch team members and Transition to a modern office while developing associates into partners.”
The GRT summit is unique in that it is a concierge-type meeting, says Dr. Mormon. All the attending ODs and vendor friends have to do is get to Denver, Colo. The GRT team takes care of all the details from transportation to the site, meals and outdoor adventures.
This year’s adventures include two different hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park, fly fishing, horseback riding, ATV riding and a tour of the Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for Stephen King’s “The Shining” and the Stanley Kubrick film starring Jack Nicholson.
Attendees also get to witness the beauty of a sunrise hike and sunset over the continental divide.
Review of Optometric Business Editor-in-Chef Margery Weinstein will be there to cover the event for an article that will appear in this publication.
