“It’s important that we have an eyewear wardrobe that matches what we talk to our patients about,” says Bridgitte Shen Lee, OD, owner of Vision Optique in Houston, Texas. Patients value when a doctor listens to their total needs and prescribes to them, she adds. Dr. Shen Lee shares her personal eyewear wardrobe of eyeglasses, sunwear and contact lenses that she, as an OD-fashionista, brings to professional meetings like Vision Expo.
TAKE BOTH SUN & PRESCRIPTION EYEWEAR. Following the advice you give your patients, pack multiple pairs of eyewear to a conference like Vision Expo East, to meet the varied needs encountered there. This includes computer eyewear and polarized sunwear, as well as eyewear with a fashion-forward edge, such as sunglasses with the new flashy mirror look.
BRING BLUE LIGHT PROTECTIVE GLASSES. Make sure at least one of the glasses has blue light protection and minimizes eye fatigue. This shows you are taking your own advice, protecting your eyes while using your smartphone, tablet or computer.
BRING MULTIPLE CONTACT LENSES. Bring a variety of contact lenses to suit all of your needs, both daytime and evening. These include a one-day single vision lens, a multifocal for reading and close work, and cosmetic contact lenses that change, or enhance, your eye color.
