September marked the launch of the next phase of Energeyes, the Association of Corporate-affiliated Optometrists, with the introduction of its website at energeyesassociation.com. The group announced its formation in a video presentation at the CEing is Believing virtual conference this summer.
The new Board of Directors consists of Walmart- and Sam’s Club-affiliated ODs: Mark Uhler, OD, of Pittsburgh, Pa, president.; Jennifer Geertz, OD, of Batavia, Ill., secretary; Eric Botts, OD, of Macomb, Ill., treasurer; Maria Fragoulis, OD, of Lewis Center, Ohio; Dmitry Gutkovich, OD, of Islandia, N.Y.; Naheed Ahmad, OD, of Roswell, Ga.; Kim Raharja, OD, of Atlanta, Ga.; Randy Grover, OD, of Miami Beach, Fla.; John Stewart, OD, of Greer, S.C.; Joe Blackburn, OD, of Houston; Nils Ohlsen, OD of Spokane, Wash.; Alicia Lombardo, OD, of Altoona, Pa;. and Toseef Husan, OD, of Chicago.
Since the announcement video in July, the Energeyes board and staff have been putting the final touches on several important programs, including a free website program for all new members, a mentorship program for new ODs, a unique product-purchasing program and several educational initiatives including the Association’s first national meeting, scheduled for April 25 – 27, 2014. Dr. Gutkovich says, “It is amazing how much we have accomplished is such a short period of time, but even better, is all of the great work we have yet to do. The membership has a lot to look forward to.”
Even before the official launch of the website and membership registration, the Board reported that it already had 60 new members who registered via email. “We knew there was interest, but getting 60 new members before we open our doors has provided us with a clear indication that we are on the right track,” says Dr. Ahmad.
“I have been working on the national meeting, which will be the year’s highlight,” adds Dr. Botts. “We will have a great educational lineup, as well as activities to bring our members closer together.”
