Optovue Launches Optometric Medical Model Initiative (TOMMI)

Optovue, a provider of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), has launched The Optometric Medical Model Initiative (TOMMI), an optometric-focused educational program intended to help ODs successfully integrate the medical model into their practice.

With the health care system constantly evolving, optometrists have looked toward a more medical mode of practice to offer their patients the best care available. The TOMMI Program is designed to facilitate increased physician awareness and education of the various aspects of the medical model through live workshops and symposia, as well as recorded webinars, articles and presentations that are housed within the TOMMI Web Portal. Located on Optovue’s new corporate web site, physicians can visit http://www.optovue.com/tommi for more information.

“I think that this is an exciting opportunity, and commend Optovue for moving into this initiative,” says Paul Karpecki, OD, FAAO. “There is no excuse to not be involved in the medical side of patient care, given the demand that will present for optometry beginning in the next few years.”

Topics found on the web portal include:
•    Posterior eye diseases, including but not limited to: age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
•    Anterior Segment, from the use of Pachymetry maps, angle measurements to the fitting of specialty contact lenses.
•    Billing and Coding.
•    Pearls for the implementation of new technology into the primary eye care practice.
