Medical eyecare is a cornerstone of today’s successful optometric practice. Understanding how to optimize essential instrumentation like the OCT is increasingly important to patient care and practice profitability. Fortunately, ODs have a new resource to help them make the most of their OCT: Optovue Academy, a program designed to give eyecare professionals the tools they need to provide the best possible patient care.

Optovue recognizes that the OCT is radically different than diagnostic technologies of the past, and that education is vital to a practice’s success with the technology. For example, new OCT users must learn to interpret the data generated by the system, as well as understand the numerous clinical applications of the technology. In addition, technicians must become skilled at scan acquisition, so that the doctor has quality data to enable decision making.

Education & Training Resources

Optovue Academy provides education and training resources on OCT interpretation and scan acquisition for eyecare professionals and their staff. The Academy includes an online learning portal with an extensive webinar library, scan atlas and “ask an expert” tool. Optovue Academy will also feature live webinars on billing and coding and more advanced clinical applications of the OCT.

Optovue Academy is available exclusively to Optovue owners, however non-owners may access a select amount of content on www.optovueacademy.com.

Diverse Curriculum

Optovue Academy offers courses in three different areas:

1. The “Clinical Education” track covers the basics of retinal anatomy as it relates to the OCT, including a section on the basics of the OCT and a series of case studies.

2. The “Technician Training” track provides video tutorials on operating Optovue’s iVue system, and is ideal for technicians who are new to the practice or those who would like a refresher course after the initial training provided by Optovue.

3. The “Practice Development” track will offer practical resources on billing and coding, increasing patient acceptance of the iWellness scan and tips on differentiating the practice with advanced technology.

Making the OCT Accessible to All ECPs

I am proud of Optovue for taking the initiative to make OCT accessible to all eyecare professionals and to demonstrate a commitment to their success with the technology by creating a state-of-the-art educational platform.

I am also very proud to be associated with this “Project to Improve Patient Care.”
