The Optometric Minute

Join the Circle of Healthcare Providers

Feb. 8, 2017

Ted McElroy, OD, president of SECO, explains the impetus behind MedPRO 360, an innovative program to premier at SECO 2017. This day-long symposium brings together various medical disciplines (podiatry, nursing, dentistry) to explore common challenges and synergies with optometry. The key: for all health care providers to work together as single team to ensure the best outcomes for patients.

FIND COMMON GROUND. All health care providers, regardless of specialty, have many of the same challenges, including effectively communicating with, and serving, patients, and ensuring their staffs are capable of providing excellent care.

UNITE AS TEAM. In an increasingly pay-for-performance, rather than pay-for-service, health care environment, ODs will need to find ways of improving communication and collaboration with other health care providers to jointly manage patients.

SHARE RETAIL SMARTS. The knowledge ODs have gathered by managing optical dispensaries in a medical settings can be shared with other health care providers, who are just now starting to look for ways of including a retail element in their practices.
