Highlights from Academy 2018

Nearly 8,000 ODs and optical personnel attended the American Academy of Optometry annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, this month. Myopia management and dry eye treatment were top of list in lectures, papers, posters and general discussion. Here, ODs in attendance share their top-line takeaways and practice growth applications.

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT. New findings in myopia management enable ODs to present fact-based explanations to families looking to limit the amount of myopia that develops in adolescents.

DRY EYE DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT. Attendees learned of new techniques in diagnosing and treating dry eye and were able to view new technology and devices in the exhibit hall.

RESEARCH PRESENTED. The Academy remains a premier venue for ODs to learn of new research that can be applied to better serve patients and sustain practice growth. The meeting provided a full schedule of lectures, papers, posters and product demonstrations.

NEW FELLOWS & DIPLOMATES NAMED. Some 303 ODs passed the exam and were named Fellows in the American Academy of Optometry, In addition, 17 ODs became AAO Diplomates.
