The Optometric Minute

“Engineering the Wow!”

January 9, 2018

Exceeding a patient’s expectations means creating a smooth, friction-free experience. Here’s how one practice improved its intake system, and many other aspects of the patient experience, to enhance convenience and efficiency—and make patients say “wow!”

CREATE MANY WOW MOMENTS. Each patient will be wowed by something different, so it’s best to make patient visits impressive, from check-in, to time with the staff and doctor, to optical shopping and check-out.

SHOW OFF TECHNOLOGY THAT ENHANCES EXPERIENCE. In addition to explaining how exam-room technology helps you care for the patient, incorporate technology upfront in the office that speeds processes like patient intake.

PAY ATTENTION TO TYPICAL LENGTH OF VISITS. Set a goal, such as patients not waiting more than five minutes at any point during their visit, and see how you can make operations more efficient to make it happen.
