New back-to-school resources

Sept. 3, 2025

Alcon has launched a new campaign to “engage patients and empower eye care professionals (ECPs) during the back-to-school season.”

Alcon announced that it will provide ECPs with new Generation Z insights and comprehensive practice resources to support providers as they care for patients as well as PRECISION portfolio rebates.

Alcon says these resources are designed to enable patients to find the best lens for their lifestyle and budget needs. The program also includes strategic partnerships with key opinion leaders in eye care and features social media content from authentic patient storytellers.

As students spend more time on homework and extracurricular activities, they need vision solutions that keep up with their demanding lifestyles, Alcon points out. Two-thirds of contact lens wearers first start using lenses between ages 11 and 20¹, and data shows contact lens visits increase by 13 percent in August compared to the rest of the year². For these reasons, the back-to-school season presents a brief but important opportunity for ECPs to reach young patients, especially Generation Z, building lasting practice loyalty with families.

“We recognize the critical role ECPs play in shaping lifelong vision habits, and for many patients that starts with early intervention and proper vision correction. Every year, ECPs help more students succeed in the classroom and Alcon is proud to support their work,” said Carla Mack, OD, head of global and U.S. professional education and development at Alcon. “This campaign is about empowering ECPs with the tools, insights and support they need to connect with Gen Z patients and their families in meaningful ways. Together, we are helping the next generation see brilliantly today and in the years to come.”

Driving Patients into Practice This Back-to-School Season

Leveraging influential ECP partners, the campaign includes broadcast and editorial partnerships that will educate families about the importance of annual eye exams and encourage audiences to visit their ECPs to see clearly, comfortably and confidently this school year.

The program will also highlight real patients sharing their eye health journeys and encouraging others to visit their ECP and explore new contact lens options. In addition, Alcon is providing dynamic in-office materials to guide patient-provider conversations and help ECPs engage patients at every touch point.

Innovations Tailored to Generation Z’s Needs

With people now spending an average of 44 percent of their waking hours on screens³⁻⁴, today’s students face new challenges for their eye health, reinforcing the need for vision care that meets them where they are, Alcon notes. From late-night study sessions to endless social media scrolling, people blink 60 percent less during screen use, causing dryness and discomfort that may impact daily life⁵⁻⁷.

Alcon points out that with its portfolio of proprietary WaterInnovations contact lenses—including PRECISION1 daily disposable lenses and PRECISION7 one-week replacement lenses—”ECPs can offer patients an eye care experience tailored to their unique needs as they prepare for school. Designed for digital-heavy lifestyles⁸⁻⁹* and offering comfort¹⁰⁻¹¹, convenience and value, PRECISION1 sphere is the top prescribed contact lens for patients under 25 and PRECISION7 is the fastest-growing contact lens brand in the market¹²⁻¹³.”

“PRECISION lenses have been extremely beneficial for my Gen Z patients—especially students juggling academics, athletics and constant screen time,” said Aaron Luekenga, OD, optometrist at Heritage Valley Eye Care Optometric Center in Fillmore, California. “These lenses offer the comfort and vision¹⁰⁻¹¹ they need to stay focused and productive all day. Since I introduced them into my practice, my patients have loved how seamlessly the lenses fit into their lives.”
