Implement technology that delivers precise AI-driven measurements and trackable business impact

My work as an account executive takes me across South Texas from San Angelo to Temple and the Rio Grande Valley. It’s a privilege to see first-hand how practices can be successful with new technology.
When I bring Spark 4W™ with Shamir iFit™ into an office, I’m helping practices update how they measure, fit and deliver lenses. Measurement technology can be game-changing if it’s implemented thoughtfully. My goal is get teams up and running fast so that they can start seeing real business improvements and an enhanced patient experience.
WHY ADD NEW TECHNOLOGY?
What’s your motivation behind the purchase of new instrumentation? Each decision should be carefully considered and properly justified. As such, there are many ways that Spark 4W with iFit can make a positive and fast impact. First, this technology reduces measurement variability, which drives down remakes. That’s one of the clearest, most measurable drains on profit.
You can also use Spark to increase premium lens attach rates. Spark gives you precise, lab-ready measurements that feed Shamir’s AI lens designs like Autograph Intelligence® and Driver Intelligence™. That’s a powerful sales story: “These lenses are tailored precisely to how your eyes sit in these frames.” When staff can explain that the measurement data produces a customized lens, premium attach rates go up. It’s an upgrade because the purpose is fitting the patient with the best visual solution, not just selling a pricier product.
One of the biggest hidden growth opportunities is freeing up staff time. Spark’s one-photo workflow delivers PDs and fit parameters in seconds. That shortens the fitting process and creates extra minutes for meaningful conversations: frame styling, lens benefits, coatings and follow-up care. Reallocating even just 10 minutes per patient can convert a meaningful percentage into premium sales.

PREPARE FOR SUCCESS
Before the Spark arrives, consider the practical needs: a stable counter or small table at patient height and a nearby monitor or tablet if you plan to share the image with patients. The device is compact and designed for tabletop use, so you don’t need a dedicated room.
One Spark covers most offices, but when patient volume grows, consider a second unit.
SIMPLICITY FOR SET UP AND STAFF
Simplicity is a major consideration in the design, especially with the addition of iFit AI. That makes it simple to get set up and started. With the Spark positioned for a comfortable, natural patient posture, I typically set up the device and start capturing sample measurements. This whole process takes about 10 minutes. I save these demos in the system so the staff can refer to it for consistency and accuracy.
If you can take a photo with a cell phone, you are on your way to success with Spark. That’s a major benefit when offices experience staff turnover. The workflow issue can be detrimental to remakes and customer satisfaction. The learning curve for the Spark is not complicated. An easier learning process for new opticians is better for the patients and the business.
POSITIONING BEST PRACTICES
The device’s six cameras, infrared capability and iFit AI do the heavy lifting. The Spark detects 192 facial landmarks and can see pupils through sunglasses and coatings—but alignment still matters. I show the team the crosshair placement: at the bridge of the nose, across the pupils and splitting the nostrils.
I also review frame clearance requirements: make sure frames have at least 10mm above the eye for certain lens designs; otherwise the system will flag a warning and we’ll pick another frame. Planning for these simple things avoids surprises on day one.
MONITOR IMPACT WITH KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Growth stalls when processes are inconsistent. During our hands-on training, I encourage some friendly competition. Each staff member takes at least ten measurements while I observe. We compare Spark vs. manual measures. Standardization reduces variability and ensures the data you send to the lab is reliable, which keeps remakes low and trust high.
I suggest tracking a few key performance indicators (KPIs) from day one: remake rate, measurement time per patient and premium lens attach rate. Offices that can look back at data or track their baseline remake rate for 60 days before introducing Spark can see a big impact.
My target I push teams toward is a remake rate below 4%. Shamir account executives can help you see where you are and how quickly Spark can move the needle.
DIFFERENTIATE AND MARKET YOUR PATIENT EXPERIENCE
Patients notice modern technology. Spark offers a unique experience, especially for those who have only gone through the old lens-dotting routine.
Use the technology to capture new patients, too. Include Spark in marketing from the website and email campaigns. Highlight how AI-driven measurements and tailored lenses can lead to a customized visual experience. Prospective patients often equate tech with quality. That perception raises lifetime value and drives referrals.
