Transitions Optical Partners with ESS for New Adaptive Crossbow Eyeshield

Transitions Optical and ESS announced the introduction of a new ballistic Crossbow eyeshield, using a Transitions adaptive sun lens. The Crossbow Photochromic, which incorporates Transitions Optical’s light-management technology, is an extension of ESS’s line of Crossbow eyeshields and allows wearers to use a single ballistic eye piece for both indoor and outdoor use.

The Crossbow Photochromic is a premium addition to the ESS product line, which the company says seeks to “redefine” functional eye protection for military and public safety professionals. The non-prescription lens is nearly clear indoors and in dim light conditions, providing a visible light transmission (VLT) range of 86-24 percent, and conveniently darkens outdoors to provide comfort from bright light and protection from harmful UV rays.

“Safety professionals are a perfect fit for using photochromic technology. Optimal vision can truly have an effect on their job performance,” says Sandy Callwood, marketing manager, Transitions Optical, sunwear. “Since the new Crossbow Photochromic eyeshield features our cutting-edge Transitions adaptive sun lens technology, wearers can rest assured they will have the best possible vision in all lighting conditions.”

“Thanks to Transitions Optical’s photochromic technology, wearers can go from a bright light situation, move indoors and know that the Transitions adaptive sun lens will rapidly adjust to the light conditions providing the greatest level of vision safety,” says Chris Dawson, product manager, ESS.

The ESS Crossbow Photochromic meets the U.S. MIL SPEC PRF 31013 (clause 3.5.1.1), ANSI Z87.1-2010, and US OSHA requirements. Additionally, for wearers with prescription eyewear needs, ESS currently offers two Rx insert options for the Crossbow: the nylon framed P-2B Rx Insert and the wire-framed Vice Rx Insert.

The Crossbow Photochromic One kit includes a black Crossbow frame, light-adapting photochromic lens, microfiber cleaning pouch, elastic retention strap and hard case, and is available now to purchase from ESS’s secure web site and through military, law enforcement and fire rescue product dealers.
