Tell Employees What Is Expected

Evan Kestenbaum, MBA, Chief Information Officer for GPN, producer of “The Edge,” says that employees turn in a superior performance when you present them with clear goals–then conduct regular performance assessments to keep them on target.

ACTION POINTS

SET OBJECTIVES. Be clear in stating job responsibilities and specific objectives when employee is hired.
REVIEW REGULARLY. Review job performance every 90 days (4x/year) and address under-performance.
REWARD PERFORMANCE. Reward employees based on exemplary performance–as defined by goals. Do not give automatic raises.
