New Report: 2014 Managed Vision Care Patient Experience Study

How do patients perceive their experiences when using vision coverage? This is among the many questions related to managed vision care answered in Jobson Optical Research’s new 2014 Managed Vision Care Patient Experience Study. In addition to aggregate results determined from the thousands of consumers surveyed, the report also includes specific data and in-depth analysis of 15 different managed vision care plans.

Using questions selected based on input from consumers/patients, eyecare professionals, and vision plan industry experts, the report is based on information gathered during the first and second quarter of 2014 from 19,934 consumers who had recent experiences with a vision plan. Key drivers measured in this 152-page report are overall experience, patient touchpoint performance, provider panel attributes, coverage and variety of services.

According to the aggregate data, a large majority of respondents use their plans for eye exams and glasses, and few saw changes in coverage costs, exam benefits, and eyewear benefits in the last year. A majority (54 percent) split the premium payment with their employers, while about 20 percent pay the entire premium themselves. Employers pay all of the premium for slightly fewer than 20 percent of respondents. Aggregate touchpoint, coverage, and provider performance are followed by specific in-depth data of the managed vision care plans analyzed, including member profiles, number of years in membership, out-of-pocket costs, advocacy scores, performance drivers and other extensive benchmark measurements.

Produced jointly by Jobson Optical Research and focalCenter, the report also includes patient demographics, plan utilization, cost and benchmark performance for the 15 different managed care plans covered in the report—Aetna, Anthem, Avesis, Cigna, Davis, EyeMed, Guardian, Humana, Kaiser, MetLife, NVA, Spectera, Superior, VBA and VSP.

The Managed Vision Care Study is available in a variety of options—the Full Report details all 15 specific plans, the Two Plan Report includes information on two specific plans, the Individual Plan Report provides data on one specific plan, and the Topline Aggregate Report is not plan specific.
