Checklist: “Five-Minute Office Environment Evaluation”

By Scot Morris, OD

Download a checklist to conduct a “Five-Minute Office Environment Evaluation.” Experience your office environment from your patient’s point of view, then make improvements that will encourage valuable patient referrals.

Did you ever take a look at your office? I mean a really good look–from your patient’s perspective. Here is my challenge: Tomorrow I want you to walk in the front door of your office five minutes before the day starts and look at your office just like your patient would. Take five minutes to go through everything your patient experiences, from the moment they walk in the door to the moment they leave, and see what ideas for improvement you come up with.

Send me notes of what you change and how you feel it impacts your patient experience. I will then pick the most innovative “improvement” to win an iPod for your patients to use so they can listen to music or watch a video while they wait. Better yet, maybe you could even put a customized message on it. I can’t wait to read your responses. E-mail me at smorris@mecace.com with “IMPROVEMENTS” in the title. I will write about the winning comment in my January Review of Optometric Business article.
