Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia Expanded Parameters

Jan. 18, 2017

Bausch + Lomb announced that Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia contact lenses are now available in an expanded parameter range. Since the contact lenses first launched in February 2016, Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia contact lenses have been available in parameters between -7 D to +2 D. The expansion now extends the power range available to eye care professionals and patients to +4.50D to -10.00D (in 0.25D steps) in both low add and high add.

“Research shows that many multifocal contact lens wearers struggle with dryness and often experience difficulty with their near and intermediate vision, particularly at work. Many Gen Xers and Boomers also spend at least nine hours a day on digital devices, which creates a significant need for innovative multifocal contact lenses that can meet these visual demands,”1 said Guy Guglielmino, vice president, marketing, U.S. Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb. “We are pleased to provide the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia in an expanded power range as part of our continued commitment in helping to provide eye care professionals outstanding options that help meet the needs of their presbyopic patients.”

“Results from a national in-office study of Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia contact lens wearers showed that 90 percent had clear vision while using their phone, 91% while using their computer, 95 percent while driving, and 94 percent being able to shift their vision naturally from near to far all day,” 3 said Jill Saxon, O.D., director, professional strategy, Bausch + Lomb. “These outstanding results demonstrate that the lenses are delivering the clarity of vision presbyopic patients need and expect from a multifocal contact lens.”3

Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia contact lenses, monthly replacement silicone hydrogel lenses, combine the company’s innovative MoistureSeal technology, which delivers exceptional end-of-day comfort1, with the proven 3-Zone Progressive™ design also found in Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia daily disposable contact lenses. The combination of these advanced proprietary technologies provides presbyopic patients exceptional comfort and outstanding vision at near, intermediate, and distance.1,3

“My multifocal patients continue to be impressed with the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia contact lenses and the level of comfort and vision clarity they’re providing for near, intermediate and distance vision,” said Ben Gaddie, O.D., an eye care professional from Gaddie Eye Centers in Louisville, KY. “The expanded parameters will now allow me to offer the lenses to even more of my presbyopic patients, who are spending a lot of their time using digital devices and struggling with uncomfortable lenses and unclear vision at the distances they need. I have also found the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia lenses to be a great option for my spectacle-wearing patients.”

According to a study with ECPs from 10 countries, the 3-Zone Progressive design allowed the ECPs to successfully fit 80 percent of patients in the lens in one visit, and 96 percent within two visits.*2 Combining this consistency with the need to only use two add powers and the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia simplified fitting guide, also enables ECPs to streamline the multi-focal fitting process.2

Additional parameters are expected later this year. More information about Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia contact lenses is available at http://www.blultra.com.
