Over Half of Patients Wear Eyeglasses Post-LASIK Surgery

Some 63.7 percent of refractive surgery patients currently wear eyeglasses, according to the Vision Council’s 2011 Eyewear Habits of Refractive Surgery/LASIK survey. Some 15.5 percent report wearing contact lenses; 11.4 percent report wearing reading eyeglasses; 10.9 percent report wearing prescription sunglasses; and 85.2 percent wear plano sunglasses.

California OD Creates Free Online Self-Help Videos

Robert Rothbard, OD, of Alta Loma, Calif., has developed a free, online video library of vision care and preventative maintenance for consumers. The library consists of seven self-help videos that Dr. Rothbard created with director/co-host Julie John. They can be seen at www.wehelpuc.com, and cover such topics as “How Vision Can Improve Through Training,” “Vision and Sports” and “Eye Health, Diet, Supplements and Exercise.”

Vision Care Revenues Up 1.2 Percent; Exam Dollars Up 2.8 Percent

Overall vision care sales revenues, including the retail sales of eyewear, contact lenses and exams, increased 1.2 percent during the 12 month period ending in June 2011, when the vision care industry in the U.S. generated $32.2 billion, an aggregate gain of $388 million at the retail level compared to the prior-year, according to VisionWatch. >>READ MORE>>
